It connects to a website to send and receive information.

Installation

This Trojan drops the following files:

  • %Application Data%\AdobeFlash\{random characters}.crx - Detected as TROJ_EXTADB.US
  • %Application Data%\AdobeFlash\update.xml

(Note: %Application Data% is the current user's Application Data folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming on Windows Vista and 7.)

Autostart Technique

This Trojan creates the following registry entries to enable automatic execution of dropped component at every system startup:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\
Google\Chrome\ExtensionInstallForcelist
1 = "{random characters};%Application Data%\AdobeFlash\update.xml"

Backdoor Routine

This Trojan connects to the following websites to send and receive information:

  • http://{BLOCKED}ked.net/king.txt
  • http://{BLOCKED}ked.net/{random characters}.crx - detected as TROJ_EXTADB.US

NOTES:

The downloaded .CRX file is a Google Chrome extension which performs other malicious routines.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by TROJ_FAKEADB.US

Step 3

Delete this registry value

Step 5

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TROJ_FAKEADB.US. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
