This is the Trend Micro detection for Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUA) bundled and installed with normal applications.

Once the file is executed, it will install the following normal applications:

  • PDF Architect 2
  • PDF Creator

However, this file also connects to the following site to download and install additional files without the user's knowledge:

  • http://{BLOCKED}.{BLOCKED}app.com/AutoUpdateWrapperService.cs.svc/webget/CheckObjectsUpdateStatusByPublisher?publisher=BingProtect
  • http://{BLOCKED}ral.{BLOCKED}b.core.windows.net/bingprotect-20141217/bingprotect.msi

It then executes the downloaded file. As a result, behavior of the downloaded file is exhibited on the affected system.

The downloaded file is detected by Trend Micro as ADW_LINKURY.

Step 1

Before doing any scans, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 users must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of their computers.

Step 2

Remove the malware/grayware file dropped/downloaded by PUA_OPENCANDY. (Note: Please skip this step if the threat(s) listed below have already been removed.)

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as PUA_OPENCANDY. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files.
