This spyware arrives as an attachment to email messages spammed by other malware/grayware or malicious users.

Installation

This spyware drops the following files:

  • %User Temp%\aut12.tmp - encrypted malicious file (will be deleted afterwards)
  • %User Profile%\Sg4413Y92252.PK1 - encrypted malicious file (will be deleted afterwards)

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\Temp on Windows Vista and 7.. %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name} on Windows Vista and 7.)

It drops and executes the following files:

  • %User Profile%\Fq32574I24350\c.exe - also detected as TSPY_ZBOT.ZKW

(Note: %User Profile% is the current user's profile folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name} on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003, or C:\Users\{user name} on Windows Vista and 7.)

It drops the following non-malicious files:

  • %User Profile%\Fq32574I24350\{random file name}.{random extension}

Step 2

Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by TSPY_ZBOT.ZKW

Step 5

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as TSPY_ZBOT.ZKW.
