This file infector arrives via malicious Java applet. Once it infects a system, it seeks out executable files in all available drives, making it easy to propagate especially to other computers that are sharing folders over a network.

It may be downloaded from remote site(s) by the following malware:

  • JAVA_EXPLOIT.ZC
  • TROJ_PIDIEF.JXM

Installation

This file infector adds the following mutexes to ensure that only one of its copies runs at any one time:

  • kkq-vx-mtx{random-number}

File Infection

This file infector overwrites code found in the entry point of a target file. It then appends the virus body to the target file. The overwritten code is saved in the virus body.

It searches for target files in the following folders:

  • {folder where malware is installed}
  • %Start Menu%
  • All available drives
