This Trojan executes when a user accesses certain websites where it is hosted.

Download Routine

This Trojan takes advantage of the following software vulnerabilities to download possibly malicious files:

  • CVE-2006-0003
  • CVE-2010-0188
  • CVE-2010-0840
  • CVE-2010-0886
  • CVE-2010-1885

After successfully exploiting the said vulnerability, this malware connects to the following URLs to possibly download other malicious files:

  • http://{BLOCKED}6.{BLOCKED}6.240.18/9VBMa76FFnB4VAYu0X5j755pMiSyVrcV?s=mdacot

It saves the files it downloads using the following names:

  • %User Temp%\updates.exe - TROJ_JORIK.BRU

(Note: %User Temp% is the current user's Temp folder, which is usually C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Local Settings\Temp on Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003.)

Minimum Scan Engine:

Step 1

For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.

Step 2

Remove malware/grayware files dropped/downloaded by JS_EXPLOIT.BRU

Step 3

Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as JS_EXPLOIT.BRU. If the detected files have already been cleaned, deleted, or quarantined by your Trend Micro product, no further step is required. You may opt to simply delete the quarantined files. Step 4
