Malware Overview

This malicious XML file may be downloaded unknowingly by a user when visiting malicious Web site(s).

It uses a specially crafted Microsoft Word document with embedded ActiveX control. This is identified by CLSID {AE24FDAE-03C6-11D1-8B76-0080C744F389}.

The said ActiveX control is used to connect to a specific Web site. The downloaded file is detected by Trend Micro as HTML_DLOADER.AS.

This malicious XML file may be downloaded unknowingly by a user when visiting malicious Web site(s).

It uses a specially crafted Microsoft Word document with embedded ActiveX control. This is identified by CLSID {AE24FDAE-03C6-11D1-8B76-0080C744F389}.

The said ActiveX control is used to connect to the following malicious URL:

  • http://www.{BLOCKED}itj.com/bbs/images/alipay/mm/jc/jc.html

It downloads the following file detected by Trend Micro as HTML_DLOADER.AS:

This malicious XML file runs on Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, and Server 2003 where Microsoft Word is installed.

Solution:

For Windows ME and XP users, before doing any scans, please make sure you disable System Restore to allow full scanning of your computer.


 Step 1: Remove the malware file dropped/downloaded by WORM_GAMANIA.AD

 Step 2: Scan your computer with your Trend Micro product to delete files detected as XML_DLOADER.A
