Trend Micro OfficeScan is a centrally managed antivirus and anti-spyware software for desktop and notebook computers. OfficeScan protects your organization's Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 and Windows 95/98/Me computers from viruses and malicious code, including file viruses, macro viruses, and malicious Java applets and ActiveX controls. By enabling administrators to configure, monitor, and maintain desktop antivirus efforts using a single console, OfficeScan improves and simplifies the administration of corporate virus policy.
This version of OfficeScan inherits many of the features of previous versions and provides the following new enhancements.
New Client-side Features
Protection against spyware and other types of grayware: OfficeScan can help protect your computers from a variety of potential threats and nuisances that Trend Micro classifies as grayware, including the most notorious type– spyware. OfficeScan scans for and cleans spyware and other grayware just as it does viruses and Trojans. However, you may want to allow clients to keep certain applications that OfficeScan classifies as grayware. To prevent OfficeScan from continually labeling these applications as grayware, you can configure a grayware-specific exception list.
Support for Windows server platforms on different processor architectures: Run OfficeScan on Windows 2000, NT, and Server 2003 platforms. OfficeScan supports Windows XP/Server 2003 computers that use both x86 and Itanium 2 Architecture-64 (IA-64) processor architectures.
Critical Spyware/Grayware exclusion list: OfficeScan might identify certain types of files as grayware, though legitimate applications on your computer might need to use these files. To prevent OfficeScan from identifying these files as grayware, configure the Critical Spyware/Grayware exclusion list, which applies to all types of scans.
Alternate servers for firewall policy application: Client computers might not be connected to an OfficeScan server but still connected to other computers that you identify as alternate OfficeScan servers. In this case, the OfficeScan client program considers these clients to be "online" and firewall policies applied only to online clients can still apply to these clients.
New Server-side Feature
Support for Cisco NAC version 2.0: With a simple upgrade of the Cisco Trust Agent, OfficeScan clients can continue sending their antivirus information to Access Control Servers (version 4.0) and Policy Servers in a Cisco NAC version 2.0 system.
The documentation set for this product includes:

Follow these instructions to install the OfficeScan server and OfficeScan client:
6.1. OfficeScan server installation
The following are instructions for installing the OfficeScan server with Master Setup:
Before running the setup program:
Try testing the server's Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) using the "ping" command in Windows to ensure that communication with the server can be established.
Test the port number, IIS anonymous user logon, and the network's proxy settings.
Remove the server program of any existing third-party antivirus software before installing the OfficeScan server.
Close any running applications before installing the server. If you install while other applications running, the installation process may take longer to complete.
To install OfficeScan server:
In Windows Explorer, open the folder that contains the setup files and double-click Setup (SETUP.EXE). The Welcome screen appears.
Click Next. The OfficeScan Software License Agreement screen appears.
Read the agreement carefully, and then click Yes to agree to all the terms. The Cisco NAC License Agreement screen appears.
Read the agreement carefully, and then click Yes to agree to all the terms. If you do not agree at this time, you cannot deploy Cisco NAC Policy Servers. You can choose not to agree at this time and later agree to this license on the OfficeScan server Web console. The Choose Destination screen appears.
Choose where to install this version of OfficeScan by clicking one of the following:
I will install/upgrade OfficeScan Server on this computer
The Web server screen appears.
I will install/upgrade OfficeScan Server on a remote computer or on multiple computers
The Install Destination screen appears. Do the following:
Type the computer name or click Browse and select a computer on your network.
Click Add. The computer name appears in the text box. Continue adding as many computers as necessary.
If you have a list of computer names saved as a text (.txt) file, click Import list and select the file. To delete an entry in the list, select it and then click Remove.
Click Next.
If you are upgrading remotely, OfficeScan preserves the original settings from the previous installation, including the server name, proxy server information, and listening and HTTP port numbers. You cannot modify these settings during upgrade. Use the OfficeScan Web console to modify these settings.
Choose the Web server for the OfficeScan server:
IIS server: click Install OfficeScan server on the IIS server to install OfficeScan on an existing IIS installation.
Apache 2.0: click Install OfficeScan server on Apache Web server 2.0 to install Apache 2.0 on an existing installation. If an Apache Web server version 2.0 or later installation is not found, Apache 2.0 will be installed automatically. OfficeScan will run on an Apache Web server only on Windows 2000/Server 2003 machines.
Click Next. The Server Information screen appears.
Configure the following information:
Server information: click one of the following:
Domain name: verify the target server domain name. You can also use the server's fully qualified domain name (FQDN) if necessary to ensure successful client-server communication.
IP address: verify that the target server's IP address is correct. Clicking IP address is not recommended if the server's IP address is subject to change (as in a DHCP environment).
If the server has multiple network interface cards (NICs), Trend Micro recommends using one of the IP addresses, instead of the domain name or FQDN, to ensure successful client-server communication.
If you selected to install OfficeScan on an IIS server, select one of the following in the IIS website section:
IIS default Web site: click to install as an IIS default Web site (in the IIS default Web site folder)
IIS virtual Web site: click to install as an IIS virtual Web site (in the IIS virtual Web site folder)
Under Port number, type a port to use as the server listening port.
You also have the option of enabling Secured Socket Layer (SSL) security. Select the Enable SSL check box. Type the number of years to keep the SSL certificate valid (the default is 3 years) and type an SSL port number. If you enable SSL, this port number will serve as the server's listening port. The OfficeScan server's address will be as follows:
http://{OfficeScan_Server_Name}:{port number}/OfficeScan
https://{OfficeScan_Server_Name}:{port number}/OfficeScan (if SSL is enabled)
Click Next. A confirmation screen appears.
Verify the server information is correct and click Yes.
If installing OfficeScan on the current computer (if you selected I will install/upgrade OfficeScan Server on this computer on the Choose Destination screen) the Proxy Server screen appears. Go to the next step.
If performing a remote install or installing on multiple computers (if you selected I will install/upgrade OfficeScan Server on a remote computer or on multiple computers screen), the Target Server Analysis screen appears. Do the following:
Click Analysis. The installer checks the computer to find out if it requires a new OfficeScan server program installation or an upgrade. You may need to type the administrator user name and password for that computer. If so, click OK after typing the information. The result appears under Status on the screen.
If the installer cannot determine this information for Target Server Analysis, Failed appears under Status, and the installer will not install OfficeScan server on the selected computers. At least one computer must pass the analysis before the installation can continue.
To save the list of computers you selected, click Export in the Target Server Analysis screen. The list is saved as a text file (.txt).
Click Next.
If your organization uses a proxy server, type the required information such as the proxy address, port, and your user name and password for proxy server authentication on the Proxy Server screen. If your organization uses SOCKS 4, select the Use SOCKS 4 check box.
Verify that the information you provided on the screen is correct. The OfficeScan server will use this information to connect to the Trend Micro update server and download updated components, such as pattern files and scan engines.
Click Next to continue. The Administrator Account Password screen appears.
Create an OfficeScan administrator password and confirm that password in the text boxes. This helps prevent unauthorized users from accessing the management console and modifying your settings or removing the clients.
Trend Micro strongly recommends using different passwords for the Web console and unloading/uninstalling the client program.
Click Next. The Components Selection screen appears.
Select the check boxes next to the components to install or enable:
Install client protection to target OfficeScan server: install the OfficeScan client program on the same machine you are installing the OfficeScan server
This check box appears only if no installation of the OfficeScan client exists on the machine. If an OfficeScan installation exists, the installer upgrades it automatically. You cannot install the OfficeScan client program to computers running Trend Micro ServerProtect for Windows NT. Uninstall ServerProtect before installing the OfficeScan client program to the OfficeScan server.
Install Control Manager agent: install the Control Manager agent to allow Control Manager to manage the OfficeScan server
Note: OfficeScan supports Control Manager agent versions 3 and 3.5.
The following do not appear for remote installations:
Install Policy Server for Cisco NAC: install Policy Server for Cisco NAC

Do the following to set an installation path:
Type an installation path.
Click Enable network scan for mapped drives and shared folders to have OfficeScan client include mapped drives and shared folders during scanning.
Modify the port number if necessary. This is a randomly generated port number through which the server will communicate with its clients.
Click Next. A confirmation screen appears.
Verify the port number and click OK to continue. The Client Alert Message screen appears.
Modify the default alert messages that appear on client machines if OfficeScan detects a virus or a firewall violation, and/or network virus.
Click Next. The Client Security Level screen appears.
Click one of the following:
Normal: assigns the access privileges already configured for the client Program Files and registry files to OfficeScan client files and OfficeScan client registries.
High: restricts access privileges to OfficeScan client files and OfficeScan client registries.
To allow clients to scan for and clean up remnants of spyware/grayware applications and terminate processes they may have started, select the Enable spyware/grayware scan/clean check box.
Click Next. The Client Settings Finished screen appears.
Click Next. The Select Program Folder screen appears.
The Master Installer adds program icons to the folder listed under Program Folder. Modify it if necessary.
Click Next. The OfficeScan installation process commences. After installation completes, the Shared Folder screen appears.
Click Next. If you selected to install Policy Server for Cisco NAC, the installation commences.
Click Next. The Setup Complete screen appears.
You have completed installing your OfficeScan server. Open the Web console or view the readme file by selecting the corresponding check box.
Click Finish.
6.2. OfficeScan client installation
There are several ways to install the OfficeScan client (see the OfficeScan Administrator's Guide for more information). Below are instructions to install from an internal Web page. You need local administrator rights on the computer to successfully install the client.
To install from an internal Web page:
On the client computer, open Internet Explorer and type the following in the address bar:
http://{Server_Name}:{port_number}/Officescan/console/clientinstall
Notes:
{Server_Name} is the computer name or IP address of the OfficeScan server.
If you are using SSL, type 'https://'.
In the Client Installation screen, click Install Now. The client installation starts. When the screen displays "Client installation is complete", the OfficeScan client icon should appear in the Windows system tray. This signifies that the installation is successful.
You can configure the OfficeScan server settings using the Web console immediately after completing the installation and before deploying the clients. For detailed instructions on how to configure OfficeScan, refer to the OfficeScan Administrator's Guide.
If you grant OfficeScan clients the privilege to modify the scan settings, you can specify how OfficeScan will handle viruses on the client computer.
There are two ways to open the console:
On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs > Trend Micro OfficeScan Client, and then click OfficeScan Client.
In the system tray, right-click the OfficeScan icon, and then click OfficeScan Main.
The following are known issues for this release:
During upgrade, if the existing OfficeScan database file (found in the "HTTPDB" folder under "OfficeScan/PCCSRV") is very large, the upgrade process may time out. Trend Micro recommends purging the database before performing the upgrade.
Server remote install cannot be performed on computers running Windows NT4 platforms.
If upgrading OfficeScan server from version 6.5 to 7.3, a script runtime error occurs if you are also installing Policy Server for Cisco NAC.
8.2. Client deployment and upgrade
The installation and removal of the Cisco Trust Agent (CTA) on client computers requires the use of a Windows Utility (netsh.exe) to add/remove CTA from the Windows Firewall Program Exception list. This is done to allow CTA to communicate, even when the Windows Firewall is enabled.
The OfficeScan client might not install with Client Packager on some 64-bit clients. If you are unable to install OfficeScan client with Client Packager, try using tools such as ProcessExplorer to unlock "ZonesCounterMutex" and "ZonesCacheCounterMutex".
To perform client Web installation on computers with a 64-bit processor architecture, you must use the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. The 64-bit version of Internet Explorer is not supported.
After performing an upgrade (if not using auto-deployment from the server), client updates using manual notification, Update Now!, or client scheduled update must be run twice. The first time, the clients will receive the program update; the second time they will receive the new components included in this version of OfficeScan.
While performing an upgrade from OfficeScan 6.5 to the current version, Trend Micro recommends disabling the other updates sources. Clients should upgrade from the OfficeScan server only.
The OfficeScan client may not install correctly if Norton SystemWork™ antivirus is installed on the computer. Uninstall it before installing the OfficeScan client.
If you apply the hot fix "Client Security Tool" to OfficeScan 5.x clients on Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 computers in an NTFS environment, client users without administrator privileges cannot upgrade the OfficeScan client using AutoPCC (Login Script) or Client Packager.
Trend Micro Vulnerability Scanner cannot perform remote client installation on Windows XP computers.
If the OfficeScan server is installed on an Apache Web server, the Application Log in the Windows NT Event Log shows an incorrect Apache server error. This occurs because of a way the Apache Web server deals with case-sensitive items in OfficeScan. The error does not actually exist; the Apache Web server is performing as expected.
If a Trend Micro Control Manager server (version 3.0 Service Pack 2 or earlier) is managing the OfficeScan server, the details of the network virus log on the Control Manager management console will display as "unknown". Trend Micro recommends upgrading to Trend Micro Control Manager version 3.0 Service Pack 3.
If you restart the OfficeScan master service, all Virus Outbreak Monitor records will be deleted.
Unless the OfficeScan server listening port is added to the ICF exception list, the OfficeScan server running on Windows Server 2003 machines cannot communicate with clients if these clients are running Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) for Windows Server 2003.
If using SSL, make sure that a firewall or other applications are not using or blocking the SSL ports. Microsoft ISA proxy server only supports port 443 by default.
Continuous network session connections (for example, mapping a driver) may trigger Virus Outbreak Monitor alerts.
Trend Micro suggests setting an exclusion path for source and target paths when creating a CD or backup.
OfficeScan may trigger a Virus Outbreak Monitor alert if using Trend Micro vulnerability Scanner (TMVS).
If OfficeScan finds a virus, the infection source name may be wrong due to many threads simultaneously performing file IO processes or other special scenarios.
Trend Micro recommends backing up the OfficeScan server database with the Database Backup tool. Set a daily backup schedule.
Trend Micro recommends not upgrading the OfficeScan client program with the UNC method (autopcc.exe) if there are more than 500 clients on your network. Use the OfficeScan Web console to perform HTTP update (client update). The client program file is updated during client deployment (see the online help for information on client deployment).
After upgrade to version 7.3, virus logs still retain cookie entries.
After uninstalling CMagent of OfficeScan 7.3, the agent data in the CMserver database still includes data about the removed agent in "dbo.CDSM_Agent".
8.4. OfficeScan server Web console
OfficeScan does not support G10N. Text on the management console may appear as garbage when data is entered in one language and the operating system of the OfficeScan server is in another language.
The Web console cannot be hosted on a computer with a 64-bit processor architecture unless you use the 32-bit Internet Explorer (IE) program.
If Hotbar™ or other adware exists on the computer you are using to access the OfficeScan server Web console, ActiveX errors may appear on some Web console screens. Trend Micro recommends accessing the Web console from computers that do not have this kind of software.
Internet Explorer default settings may prohibit ActiveX controls. You may need to add the address of the OfficeScan Web console to the list of trusted sites in the Internet Explorer browser to have the Web console function properly.
To use the Web console, the security level on your Internet Explorer Web browser should be set Medium or lower.
Client computers with 64-bit processors cannot install the following OfficeScan features: Spyware/Grayware cleanup, Enterprise Client Firewall, Mailscan, and Outbreak Prevention Policies.
If you discover spyware or other grayware that OfficeScan cannot detect, please send it to Trend Micro through one of the following methods:
the submission wizard at the following address: http://subwiz.trendmicro.com/SubWiz/
to TrendLabs via this email address: virusresponse@trendmicro.com
to your Technical Account Manager or support contact
The access permissions for OfficeScan client folders, files and registries are set during installation and can be changed from the Web console under Clients > Client Privileges (Security). However, on Windows NT4 machines, even if you set the client security access permission to HIGH , the user may still be able to gain access to these folders and files because OfficeScan inherits the security permissions from the %WINDIR regardless of where the OfficeScan client is installed. By default, the security permissions of the %WINDIR folder are set to full access for everyone.
The OfficeScan client inherits Security settings from different locations depending on the operating system of the client machine.
The OfficeScan clients on Windows NT machines inherit permissions from the %WINDIR folder, regardless of where the OfficeScan client is installed.
The OfficeScan clients on Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 machines inherit permissions from the parent folder or from Program Files folder. When the OfficeScan client is installed under the Program Files folder, the security permissions will be inherited from its parent folder. If not, it will be inherited from the Program Files folder.
For Windows 9x clients, user-level access control is not available on the Outbreak Prevention setting shared folder blocking.
OfficeScan clients may experience problems receiving email if you enable Real-time Scan for POP3 email. Ensure that the port used for email is not blocked. See the Knowledge Bank for suggested workaround solutions: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/.
Performing client migration with the ServerProtect Normal Server Migration Tool will not be successful when the server machine has installed Microsoft hot fix KB835732 (MS 04-011). You must install Trend Micro SPNT hot fix to resolve this issue.
On Windows NT4 platforms, cookies cannot be removed from scanning even if the cookie exclusion function is disabled.
If detecting a virus through a terminal session, the OfficeScan client will show a popup warning window for every logon user. If one user kept sending viruses or malicious code to remote machines, the warning windows also keep appearing.
8.6. Enterprise Client Firewall
The Process field in the Client Validation log may display incorrect information.
Some applications, such as Secure Shell (SSH) or Terminal Service Client/Remote desktop may not function when Enterprise Client Firewall is installed. If this occurs, restart the application after installing OfficeScan.
OfficeScan Enterprise Client Firewall installations may conflict with other firewall installations. Trend Micro recommends uninstalling other firewall installations on client machines if you want to enable Enterprise Client Firewall.
If Microsoft AntiSpyware™ is installed on the same computer as the OfficeScan server or client, a warning pop-up message will appear when:
the OfficeScan server is remotely installed or upgraded (Svrinst.exe)
the Apache Web server service starts
the OfficeScan server starts
Client NT remote install is performed (SVCrunAP.exe)
Client shell extension registers to the system (TMDSHELL.DLL)
Client IO monitor starts (PccntMon.exe)
Client Web installs ActiveX control (WinNTchk.dll)
the real-time Scan service starts (NTRTScan.exe)
During setup, if you encounter the error message, "Insufficient memory available to run Setup", close all other applications to make more memory available, and then run Setup again. If this occurs while there is sufficient memory available, run Setup at the command prompt with the following syntax:
setup -IZ1 Z1
This will cause the setup program to skip memory checking.
This version of OfficeScan does not support GateLock Remote Appliances.
This version of OfficeScan does not support Remote Agent.
