About OfficeScan ======================================================================== Trend Micro(TM) OfficeScan(TM) is a comprehensive antivirus and anti-spyware solution for desktop, mobile clients and servers. The centralized, server-based management features of OfficeScan allow administrators to fully manage and enforce antivirus policies for the entire organization, while providing client computers with full, reliable, and transparent protection and Damage Cleanup Services. Please see the OfficeScan server readme for detailed information on server configuration and system requirements. 2. What's New ======================================================================== This version of OfficeScan inherits many of the features of previous versions and provides the following new enhancements. o Protection against spyware and other types of grayware: OfficeScan downloads Spyware/Grayware pattern files to protect your computers from a variety of potential nuisances besides viruses, including adware and spyware. OfficeScan can perform spyware and other grayware scan and clean just as it can scan and clean client computers of viruses. There may be certain applications and files that OfficeScan considers spyware or grayware, but which you still want to allow clients to keep. You can configure a spyware and other grayware exception list to prevent OfficeScan from scanning these specified items. o Support for Windows server platforms on different processor architectures: run OfficeScan on Windows 2000, NT, and Server 2003 platforms. OfficeScan client supports Windows XP/Server 2003 computers that use both x86 and Itanium Architecture-64 (IA64) processor architectures and x64 platforms (Intel EM64T and AMD64 processor architectures.) o Critical Spyware/Grayware exclusion list: OfficeScan might identify certain types of files as grayware, although legitimate applications on your computer might need to use these files. To prevent OfficeScan from identifying these files as grayware, configure the Critical Spyware/Grayware exclusion list, which applies to all types of scans. o Alternate servers for firewall policy application: Client computers might not connected to an OfficeScan server but still connected to other computers that you identify as alternate OfficeScan servers. In this case, the OfficeScan client program considers these clients to be "online" and firewall policies applied only to online clients can still apply to these clients. o Support for Cisco NAC version 2.0: With a simple upgrade of the Cisco Trust Agent, OfficeScan clients can continue sending their antivirus information to Access Control Servers (version 4.0) and Policy Servers in a Cisco NAC version 2.0 system. 3. Installation ======================================================================== OfficeScan provides several client installation methods (see the OfficeScan Installation and Deployment Guide for more information). Below are instructions for installing the OfficeScan client from an internal Web page. You must have local administrator rights to successfully install the client. To install from the internal Web page: 1. Open an Internet Explorer window and type the following in the address bar: http://{Server_Name}:{port_number}/Officescan/console/clientinstall where {Server_Name} is the computer name or IP address of the OfficeScan server). If using SSL, type 'https://'. The OfficeScan Client Installation screen appears. 2. Click "Install Now" to start installing the client. The client installation starts. Once installation is completed, the screen displays the message, "Client installation is complete". To verify a successful installation, check if the OfficeScan client icon appears in the Windows system tray. NOTE: If you do not know that name of the OfficeScan server, contact your OfficeScan administrator. 6. Post-Installation Configuration ======================================================================== If your OfficeScan administrator grants you privilege to modify the scan settings, you can specify how OfficeScan will handle viruses on your computer. To check if you have the privilege to modify the scan settings, open the OfficeScan client console to see if the Options menu is active. You can open the console from the Start menu or from the icon in the system tray. To open the console from the Start menu, on the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Trend Micro OfficeScan Client, and then click OfficeScan client. The client console appears. To open the console from the system tray, in the system tray, right-click the OfficeScan icon, and then click OfficeScan Main. The client console appears. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== 1. Client computers with 64-bit processors cannot install the following OfficeScan features: Spyware/Grayware cleanup, Enterprise Client Firewall, Mailscan, and Outbreak Prevention Policies 2. The access permissions for OfficeScan client folders, files and registries are set during installation and can be changed from the Web console under Clients > Client Privileges (Security). However, on Windows NT4 machines, even if you set the client security access permission to HIGH, the user may still be able to gain access to these folders and files because OfficeScan inherits the security permissions from the %WINDIR regardless of where the OfficeScan client is installed. By default, the security permissions of the %WINDIR folder is set to full access for everyone. OfficeScan client inherits Security settings from different locations depending on the operating system of the client machine. OfficeScan clients on Windows NT machines inherit permissions from the %WINDIR folder, regardless of where the OfficeScan client is installed. OfficeScan clients on Windows 2000/XP/ Server 2003 machines inherit permissions from the parent folder or the from Program Files folder. When the OfficeScan client is installed under the Program Files folder, the security permissions will be inherited from its parent folder. If not, it will be inherited from the Program Files folder. 3. For Windows 9x clients, user-level access control is not available on the Outbreak Prevention setting shared folder blocking. 4. OfficeScan clients may experience problems receiving email if you enable Real-time Scan for POP3 email. Ensure that the port used for email is not blocked. See the Knowledge Bank for suggested workaround solutions: http://kb.trendmicro.com/solutions/. 5. Performing client migration with the ServerProtect Normal Server Migration Tool will not be successful when the server machine has installed Microsoft hot fix KB835732(MS 04-011). You must install Trend Micro SPNT hot fix to resolve this issue. 6. On NT4 platforms, cookies cannot be removed from scanning even if the cookie exclustion function is disabled. 7. If detecting a virus through a terminal session, the OfficeScan client will show a popup warning window for every logon user. If one user kept sending viruses or malicious code to remote machines, the warning windows also keep appearing. 8.
